The Anatomy of an Osper Card
Lots of young people and some parents get in touch with the community team at Osper about their card details!
We get questions like:
Many of our users are only 8 years old and have never encountered any kind of bank card before, so all of this is new to them! In all cases, we are unable to give users their card details as we do not store them! π This is because these details are essential to making payments from the card and therefore are only stored in a few safe places, one of which is on the card itself π€
Just here, I’ve set out ‘the anatomy of anΒ Osper card’ to guide our users through what information is on the card, and what it’s all about.
Each of the components of the card has a lot of information behind it and an individual purpose.
You may have noticed that the Osper card does not have a sort code, hence Osper isn’t used for account transfers – one less number you have to worry about in this case! π
What about the CVV code, what even is the CVV code? π€
The CVV (Card Verification Value, also sometimes called the CVC) is the 3 digit code on the back of the card in the signature box. These are the last 3 digits to the right side of that box:
Because this number is on the other side of the card, it provides added protection from card details being copied visually ππΌ
Which details should I keep safe?
All of them! π
None of your card details should be treated as if they are not important, each one is often required for payment verification.
If one of them is known, this makes is easier to acquire the other details π
Card details are so private and important that we do not store them in a location that is visible to staff members at Osper.
When you call us, the only information that we are aware of on your Osper card is the account number, everything else is your personal information, and we would never ask you to reveal those detailsΒ over the phone π
How can I protect my details?
All of the card details should be kept safe by storing your card in a safe place out of sight, preferably in a wallet or purse that you keep with you.
Here is a list of tips when using the card online that you should follow π€ :
What should I do if I think my card details are known by someone else? π€
If you think that your card details have been compromised you can lock your card in the Osper app.
Both the parent and the young person can do this from the app!
Once the card is locked it cannot be used at all unless it is unlocked.
Next, give Osper a call on 020 3322 9090 or chat to us by pressing ‘Help’ in the app.
We’ll be able to help you work out what might be going on and send a replacement card if necessary. A replacement card has different details, Β any details that had been compromised would not be valid for payment anymore.
If you are sure that you need a replacement you can also do this in the app! π
The card lock can be found in the more tab of both the parent and the young person app:
We have a full guide for how to do this here π
Black Friday
With black Friday approaching quickly (Friday 25th of November π€), it’s interesting to know that fraud levels rise dramatically on this day along with online activity! I’m sure you’ll have seen lots of sales adverts out there, so what can you do to make sure you don’t end up affected?
The most effected group is the 16-34 age range π
There are some great bargains available at this time of year, you don’t have to miss out, just don’t get carried away with the hype! π
Always be vigilant!
