So what is Guy Fawkes all about?
Lots of us learn about Guy Fawkes in school, here are a few facts that I’ve collected for those of us who have become a bit rusty over the years!
- Guy Fawkes was born in 1570 in York.
- He was just one member of the group who planned the Gunpowder Plot in 1605 and was in charge of the explosives used.
- Guy Fawkes was the plotter involved in setting up the explosives under parliament, he was discovered at the scene and hence became the most famous of the plotters!
- November 5th was soon made into a public holiday in the UK, but the holiday was lost in Victorian times as the celebration fell out of favour. 😓
- Today, we celebrate by lighting bonfires and watching fireworks, and the night has become one that brings a bit of excitement as the weather starts to turn. 🌂

Ollie thinks of ‘mulled wine and sparklers on a chilly evening’ whilst Hamish recalls ‘getting the family together around a fire and sharing some marshmallows’. 👍

It all sounds very relaxing to me and the perfect time to enjoy time with the family! 🙂
There are also ample opportunities to go to many bonfire nights held in communities around the country!
